Rick has a varied business and volunteer background. In Dallas TX, he started and operated a business in Dallas TX providing concession, catering and take-out barbecue, after winning dozens of trophies on the competition barbecue circuit. He was a member of Leadership Dallas, active in the high school band boosters, was a member of the advisory board of the MLK Center and a volunteer with H.U.G.S., an AIDS support organization. (More on early bio and barbecue life)

In 2002, Rick and his wife Stacey moved to Atlanta GA. ( More on this)

Before moving to a loft in downtown Atlanta, Rick and Stacey spent several years in the Northlake Mall area of Atlanta, where they were active members of the Northlake Alliance of Gays, Lesbians and Straights (N.A.G.S.). They support basset hound and daschund rescue groups and spend their free time riding motorcycles and enjoying their two basset hounds, Callie and Mimi. Rick's recent recreational interests include bowling and the world of Klingons (yes, from Star Trek). Rick and Stacey and split their time between their loft in downtown Atlanta and their cabin in the north Georgia mountains, although most of their time nowadays is spent at Spring4th Center.

Rick is certified as a paralegal, and has an Associates Degree in Recording Engineering.

He is co-owner of Balthazar Productions LLC, a small video production company in the Atlanta area.

Although he has life-threatening health issues, Rick has found that giving back to the community and finding something he is passionate about gives him more of a reason to live. He and his wife Stacey have chosen to focus their energies on building Spring4th Center into a welcoming home and legacy for people and organizations that value inclusiveness, diversity, liberty and openness.
